"It's Just Tea" for The Tea Smith;

June 14, 2009; Omaha NE

Just a tea leaf looking for love...

A fun and cheeky project I created for my father's loose leaf tea store in Omaha, Nebraska. I developed the concept with assistance from my sister, Alison Kawa, actress/artist/writer and business mind of Social Sonar (for all your small business needs.)

Carole Zacek created the amazing costumes, and everyone on set was a great help in my first undertaking in film direction. Perhaps someday, I'll foray again into Writing/Directing. I hear that's a thing. And that there is a shortage of females in the industry... Care to fix that? Let's chat.

Fun Fact: The instrumental music is from The Biggest Missiles, a band from Omaha. I improvised/recorded a few songs with them as a try-out. Check out some of my songs on my Talent page.

Second Assistant Director
"Shattercane"

Directed by Michael Tringe

Oct 7 to 12, 2007; Friend, NE

As I (tiringly) reminded everyone on set, I left a P.A. gig on an Eddie Murphy movie in Denver for the chance to 2nd A.D. this short. And I was happy to do so. It was a great chance to work with some great folks from USC, including Nicola Marsh who has gone on to DP some great films including 20 Feet from Stardom.

I learned to balance needs for cast and crew. And somehow figured out where to find canned air for the camera lens in the middle of the country...
